Killeen Real Estate
The largest city in beautiful Bell County, located 60 miles north of Austin, is the City of Killeen off Hwy 190. Killeen, as the motto implies, is "A City Without Limits." The real estate market in Killeen reflects the city's motto and shows no limits to the amount of diversity it offers today's homebuyers.
The city of Killeen has a rich Texan culture. It dates back to 1881, when the Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad system expanded through central Texas. Killeen was named after the railway's assistant general manager, Frank P. Killeen. The town remained a small farming and trade center until the demands of World War II required the opening of a military base camp in the early 1940s, later re-commissioned as Fort Hood in 1950. The military brought growth, an economic change from agriculture to military, a few recessions after the end of the war, and then massive growth again. The city of Killeen today is a direct extension of the expansion and support of Fort Hood, which brings a large degree of diversity to the area.

With an average temperature of 69.7 degrees, stunning rolling hills, and more than 250 acres of parkland, Killeen is a wonderful place to call home. It offers the best in community amenities with fine restaurants, sporting venues, shopping complexes, community theatres, libraries, golf courses, and numerous city parks featuring pools, playgrounds, picnic spots and athletic fields. There is truly something for every resident.
The Killeen Independent School District serves the cities of Killeen, Harker Heights, and Nolanville while offering secondary education of the greatest degree to roughly 35,000 children. A higher level of education may be obtained locally at Central Texas College or Tarleton State University-Central Texas.

For those seeking enriching career opportunities in Killeen, there are many options to consider. Some of the major employers in Killeen are the military base of Fort Hood (the largest employer in the state of Texas), two local health care systems of the Scott & White Clinic and Metroplex Hospital, the Killeen Independent School District, the City Government of Killeen and Central Texas College, just to name a few.
The real estate market in Killeen offers something for everyone ranging from affordable townhouses and condos to ranches in rural areas with acreage and horse facilities. Killeen offers the best in family communities and subdivisions with modest single family homes or more luxurious golf course housing and gated country estates. The city and its residents value a strong community and a patriotic spirit, and homebuyers are proud to contribute to the prosperous real estate market.
